Description

In 2021 and 2022, MHUARI participated in a multidisciplinary project called Imagerie sous-marine à haute-résolution de la morpho-sédimentologie et de l’hypoxie dans le Chenal Laurentien/ Underwater High-Resolution Imaging of Morpho-Sedimentology and Hypoxy in the Laurentian Channel. This project was funded by the program Odyssé of the Réseau Québec Maritime. The project united scholars from Université Laval, Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR), the Centre Interdisciplinaire de Développement en Cartographie des Océans (CIDCO), the Centre de développement et de recherche en intelligence numérique (CDRIN), as well as MHUARI.

This project gave us the opportunity to gain new high-resolution imaging at great depth (from 150 to 300 meters!). Archaeologically, this project enhanced our knowledge of great-depth shipwrecks and led to new hypotheses on the identity of a few ships that have previously remained unknown.
